Are your teeth to small? Do you show too much gum when you smile? SmilesNY understands cosmetic issues like this, and you may be an ideal candidate for cosmetic crown lengthening!
In house, we like to call the crown lengthening procedure a "gum lift." It's a procedure we use local anaesthetic for, and our specialist periodontist Dr. Kevin Loshak, DDS will make small incisions in the gums and remove any offending excess tissue. Dr. Loshak may also need to remove a small amount of bone at the crown of the tooth, and he'll cleanse and suture the areas afterward.
In order to protect your health and the health of your new smile after a gum lift, you'll need to eat a soft food diet and take special care to brush softly. We find that most patients only need to use mild pain relievers like Advil or Tylenol after the procedure, and any discomfort fades after a few days. After a week, we'll schedule a followup appointment to check on your smile and make sure everything healed well.
After a procedure like this, you'll find that your smile is now more symmetrical and exposes more of your teeth. It'll remove any worry about a "gummy smile," so you can start showing off those pearly whites more! You'll also be able to brush and floss better, leading to an overall more healthy mouth!
