Juul Abandoned Plan To Teach Students About Vaping In Schools

CNN (11/3, Nedelman) reported on Juul Labs’ abandoned effort to launch an anti-vaping curriculum in schools earlier in 2018 after hearing “backlash from health and education advocates.” Experts criticized the program because it “didn’t discuss the role of industry and marketing in promoting nicotine use,” for instance. FDA Commissioner Dr. Scott Gottlieb said that the agency will issue a “new action plan” later this month to “firmly confront and reverse the youth addiction trends that are at epidemic levels.” On Friday, he scheduled a public hearing next month that will “focus on the potential role of drug therapies to support cessation among youth, and the issues impacting the development of such therapies for children.”
